    Entropia? WTF?

Yeah, Entropia contracts out your CPU cycles to whatever company it thinks "needs them" the most. They do ahve some decent projects from time to time but nothing worth getting excited about.

if you have the option of setting up windows or linux for your dedicated genomer...

I would propose that a dedicated Windows machine would be perfectly stable - I've never had crashes at home, where I hardly ever do anything. But the net cafe machines crash all the time - I suspect concurrent usage is one of the big problems of the Win client. Whereas the Linix client just...

    Genome@Home priority question

Only thing with that is that you have to reset it every time you restart (which hopefully isn't all that often ;)). I'm sure there's a registry setting or something which tells the client what priority to use as well.. As for that program, It's great, isn't it? I've got an older version...

    Ok who is crunching what?

    Current estimate: Athlons: (7x800) + (12x1200) + (5x700) + (3x900) + (1x1000) Durons: 9x600 PIII: ~12x866 + 3x667 = ~45Ghz Potential is more.. actual is less.. :eh:

    Defragging with g@h

Bigger units would also be better for your defrag problem.. If you went to v0.94 that doesn't use a log file you should be able to get the defrag done within the time it takes to do a sequence.. .. although you'd never be able to safegaurd where exactly the client is at when the defrag...

    Win-XP denounced as terrorism tool

I'm sure similar things were said about cars and TV at one stage too.. and especially the computer itself.. I'm sure at least some of you are aware that the PIII is illegal in China as it is classified as a supercomputer....

WinXP Tip of the Day #3

Good stuff. I haven't been doing this enough - each time I swear that as soon as I'm done installing, I'll make a ghost.. but there's always one more thing I'm waiting for...

WinXP tip of the day #4

Very interesting point about the firewall.. I still don't like the idea of having to buy new hardware though.. I'm quite attached to my PCI128.. ;)

    A letter to MS...

I think that's an interesting point about the spread of MS products - if people weren't allowed to put it on all their machines at will, would in fact have the OSs have become as popular? Of course most people buying XP will be buying it with a new machine, and most of them won't ever be doing...

Is anyone interested in XP tips?

Great stuff. Should be useful considering we have to work on XP over the phone without any XP system here to give us a clue about what we're playing with..

    God Bless Microsoft

I think I'll be moving to Linux before I go to XP. Unless of course I can find an activation-less build somewhere.. ;)

    Scandisk enters after restarting

Hmmm.. sweet. I've had this occasionally.. if I've had a system crash, it will think it wasn't shut down properly the next few times as well.. Is your system overclocked (and if not, why not?? ;))? Try dropping it to default & see if it still happens.. Also try emptying your recycle...

    Somebody shoot me

I don't think I've ever really had a go at getting a PC Speaker to work.. maybe your cables are dead?? If it's plugged in to the right pins (and the right orientation - I've done that with the power switch before ) and you don't have a PCI sound card installed, then either a dead...
