FBI Releases List of Top 20 Computer Risks

Vulnerabilities like this are all very well, but people who really want to exploit these holes aren't going to be interested (all that much) in home users; in many cases they aren't anything that home users will be able to do anything about anyway... :retard:

    XP

Daddy it's not the harddrive, only the Highpoint controller. Which actually is probably worse.. if you can make do with only the four IDE channels rather than 8, you'd be fine.. But yeah, I think my PCI128 is going to stop me upgrading to XP as well..

    DTOLE?

Dtole.exe looks like it is something to do with HP & keyboard shortcuts - by any chance do you have an internet keyboard with the extra shortcut buttons? In any case if you open up msconfig you should be able to deselect it from running at all.

    Just reinstalled windows

I'm slowly getting sick of Win98 myself.. was waiting for my spankin' new HDD to migrate to 2k.. and the frickin' backup drive dies two hours before it gets there.. In any case I think I'll be moving to Linux before XP..

MS' vision of the OS of the future

Better a misguided vision than no vision at all. If he goes the wrong way, the increase in popularity of Linux will soon modify his thinking. ;)

    Remote Control Software

Sounds like an interesting program; VNC has its advantages but as always it has its limitations also. My only concern is how much effort might be put into targeting this site to extract machine password details - after all, what's an easier way to get into someone else's machines than them...

Consumers Union, XP & OS X

It's a shame that the magazines can't keep up. When someone rushes intot he office proclaiming the "latest developments" itbegins to get a bit mean embarassing them every single time.. ;) Not to mention the fact that by the time they come out, contradictory information is then the fact, which...

    Teach me some history

Uhhh I thjink in arguing against unc's points there you're missing the major point: Why the hell shouldn't the US support the Israelis?? They've got just as much right to live as the Palestinians... maybe more now, depending on who is actually responsible for the WTC. The US likes Israel &...

Any of you Windows gurus got an explanation for this?

I have may taskbar vertical as well. It's in fact much more convenient - you can see instantly which tab is which program - when you've got 10+ IE windows open that can make a lot of difference.. & when you're running a high enough res (1280x1024 on the primary) it makes very little difference...

Any of you Windows gurus got an explanation for this?

Hmmm lost their transparency... interesting... Google didn't bring up any helpful insights.. funnily enough, it looks a little like Safe Mode..

    From the NY Times

That's a very good point. Huge the "legitimate" user is he who has purchased the software and uses it only one one machine. The activation itself will, as stated, only take maybe 3 or four minutes to do online - hardly a major inconvenience, and definitely nothing that could be considered...
