Run any program as a service

For some reason it seems to refuse to work in Win98, but NT4 & 2K should be sweet. In the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices & add a key. Can be any name you like but the value needs to be the path of the program you want to run...

I need to completely remove this proggie

Hmmmm... have a look through again & try & identify every entry. If there's one left over you can't pick, chances are it'll be the Irfanview thing. But I think brainsoft's suggestion is probably going to be the most efficient.. :)

I need to completely remove this proggie

Hmmmm cool thanks for the tip brainsoft, I wasn't aware of that one.. :) For pesky programs though RegCleaner is an awesome tool. It hunts them down in the registry & removes all reference to them. Including file associations, time-limited demo expiries, etc. :)

    What version?

Okay, who put 3.1? :) I'm looking at the options & thinking we don't really need so many different ones.. In particular 3.0/3.1; since we have 95 a/b/c all as one & 98 fe/se. Not that it makes too much difference I guess, but that "moderators only" button just looks so goddamn tempting!! :D

    Min specs for Linux??

Hmmm it won't be dual booting - just straight Linux. I'm putting Win98 on it at the moment just to get it started so I guess I'll note the IRQs & things while I'm there. Do I need to do that though?? Doesn't it do that for ya anymore??? Damn.. :)

    Which one??

Okay well in the end I've gone for Mandrake 7.1, courtesy of krusty.. It's going to be used as a firewall/internet server. So could ya point me in the direction of a few good pages related to setup of firewalls, etc, & what it can & can't do?? Would be awesome man.. cheers. :)

MS wants to tell you where to go today.

This is actually rather old news (~ a month) and MS has since anounced that they won't be adding this feature into XP versions of IE, however they do hope to add a similar capability sometime in the future. The feature, while not exactly "top of the pops" for web-designers or power users...

    Will you upgrade...

I'm sure I will at some stage. I'll be waiting for user experiences before even thinking about it though. Hell I was on Win95 until halfway through 2000 because I didn't want to give up my French Windows.. :D
