Anyone buying an Abit KR7A or similar, look out for this.....

While I was at it, I modded the power supply exhaust too! Took it apart and used the Dremel to trim out the stamped steel fan guard. Replaced it with a wire guard to help airflow......... I love to tweak.............:D

Fury - No prob dude. If you look closely at the clips with no springs, you can see that the curls on one of them are tighter which caused the lighter/loose tension. Typical assembly line product...... Acid - The fan mods do not take much time. The holesaw takes about 30 seconds to cut...

just put a heatsink on a barebones

One of the best for heat and testing is a little proggy I have called "Stability Test" which puts the CPU under intense 100% load when set to hardcore mode. I have the older version which will run indefinately. I also have Stability Test 9 which is newer and limits how long it will run. A real...

    Anyone ever order from motherboards.com?

Hey s4, what ECS board did you get? I had a K7S5A for a while and it worked well. Some people are having trouble with them, but mine is still going strong for a buddy!

    Anyone ever order from motherboards.com?

Motherboards.com has always seemed a little high on prices so I have never ordered from them. I have had really, really good luck with www.newegg.com for a lot of parts. And they rated good at reseller ratings. Also, they are very competitive on prices. For CPU's, I have always ordered...

Anyone buying an Abit KR7A or similar, look out for this.....

Now she is running at 145FSB with default voltage! I haven't tried 150FSB yet, but I think I might be able to hit it (I hope!). Anyways, be on the lookout for the above problems. A lot of mobo's have terrible applications of grease on the Northbridge so It's not just Abit. Just a heads up!!!

Anyone buying an Abit KR7A or similar, look out for this.....

Man, is that lame or what?!?!? How are we supposed to hit 150FSB with the Northbridge in that shape? Not gonna do it like that! So, I did the job myself and it looked like this when I put it back together. And the new pins have good tension too!!!

So, first thing, check these pins for tension. Then, when I took things apart to replace the cheapo pins, this is what I found....
