Researchers believe that gum disease is one of the culprits in heart attacks. In fact, any chronic bacterial infection can be a problem.
People with gum disease tend to have higher blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)- an indication that there's blood bessel inflammation. High CRP levels are associated with heart attacks.
Smoking, not excercising and being overweight can also result in higher CRP levels.
