My CPU temperature shoots up to 68C when playing Unreal!

brainsoft's cpu runs @ about 70 under full load. He doesn't even overclock it! (it's an Athlon XP 2100+) He only has the retail heatsink/fan now though, he is getting better ones.

If it will fit on your mobo... Get a Thermalright AX-7, pair it with a delta 80mm (68.5cfm) fan@5400 rpm
It's 28 bucks at newegg and about 6 bucks for the fan...
It's keeping my rig pretty cool, even after a full day of genoming... very little temp variations, and not that noisy at all ...

Genome box - 1100 Duron 67C load
Athlon Box - Dual 1900+@2100+ around 56-8C max load on both
Athlon Box - [email protected] 47c max
Pentium 4 - [email protected] - 48C loaded

i don't break a sweat at those temps, electro migration due to excess voltage does more damage than thermals could, i'm stable up to 78C on the duron box, never tried the others for testing

Well, I spent my money on some badly needed case fans this time, so the AX-7 will have to wait.

What are your temps while playing Unreal/Unreal Tournament? I've found that however hot my CPU got while Genoming, Unreal could always make it go 10 degrees hotter.

It never goes above 42c... unless i unplug the 120mm side fan, then I jumps to 50c...
