BD, on most HP-writers I've seen you have to install the software before you even hook up the burner, with ezcd.;) You might have to uninstall the software, unhook the burner, reinstall the software, then rehook up the burner. I've seen this happen several times, and not just with xp.;)

I rent mine, for like $5/month. At that price it would take a few years to cost as much as buying one, plus if anything goes wrong with it is thier baby.;) They've already had to replace one.

I don't use winFax, I use V3-CallCenter, but I guess it's the same. You need a phone-modem, but you don't need a ISP. You don't need a fax machine at all. The modem works as a fax machine. A scanner does come in handy. If you already have a fax machine, I'm not sure how you would/could...

Both machines are plugged into regular outlets on the router, and not the uplink port, right? Man I hate xp, just for that very reason mainly, and the driver, and compatability stuff. I'm waiting for sp3 for it, before I get more than this one copy.

Do you have anything shared on the 98 machine? It's been my experience that xp doesn't see 98 machines sometime because nothing is shared.;) also you may have to restart one or both machines, after that.

Are you using the home, or pro version, and areyou using ntfs?
